BIOGRAPHY

Originally from Derby, Tom began playing Double Bass at the age of 16. In 2013 he was offered a place on the undergraduate course at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music, where he graduated in the summer of 2018. Under the tutelage of the great Michael Janisch, Jaspery Høiby and Jeremy Brown, he has been honing his skills on the Double Bass, and is now an in demand session musician on the London and Birmingham music scenes.

Heavily influenced by Ray Brown and Christian Mcbride, Tom is known for his driving walking bass and melodic soloing. At the age of 29 he has already developed a vast contrasting network of musical experience. From the likes of UK Jazz Musicians (Alan Barnes, Gilad Atzmon, Soweto Kinch, Aydenne Simone, Benet Mclean, Andy Davies, Rachel Cohen) to pop and rock legends (Dave Stewart), to Musicals (The Lion King, The Mad Hatter, Rent), Tom thrives in any musical situation, and is constantly looking to learn and develop his playing. With these different outfits he has played at various venues such as Ronnie Scott's, The 606, The Vortex, The Stables, The Piano Bar - Soho, The Barbican and The O2 Arena.

You can regularly hear Tom play at venues up and down the country with bands such as Aydenne Simone and the Big Mama Trio, the Olly Chalk Trio, the Liam Stevens Trio, the Harry Bolt Quartet and his own groups: The Tom Dring Trio and the Tom Dring Sextet; for which he composes and arranges original music, and is aiming for his Debut Album to be recorded and released in 2023
